A sewing machine is one that is used to sew cloth and materials via a thread. It was invented at the time of the first Industrial Revolution to bring about an economy of time otherwise wasted in time-consuming manual processes. The first operational sewing machine, normally regarded as the work of Elias Howe and Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790, boosted the efficiency and productivity of the industries and proved to be a great opportunity. The sewing machines we use at home are structured for a single person to sew one item while using a single tailor at a time. But in the new sewing machine, the process is much easier and automated without the inconvenience of needles the cloth easily moves in and out of the machine. Prior sewing machines were operated by either continuously turning a handle or thorough a mechanism of the treadle. Machines that run through electricity came later. 

The impact of sewing machines on society is impeccable and it filled life with new hope and energy. Prior to the invention of sewing machines, women lose a lot of their time sewing their family's clothing. Middle family housewives, even with the aid of a helper, would have to give many days of the month to perform this task. It took an experienced seamstress around 14 hours to make a shirt for a man, and 10 hours for a woman's dress to complete, and a pair of trousers get completed in nearly three hours. Many people except the rich class would have only very few or two sets of clothing divided such as work outfits and holiday outfits. The sewing machine has changed the clothing industry. The production of raw materials like cotton had to augment to deal with the demand. Therefore, cotton farming initiated where it had not priory been farmed. Other industries within the process that also got influenced are metal industries who deliver raw materials for the machines, and ships to maneuver the increased amounts of products. The importance didn't stick around the clothing production; sewing machines also became significant to the production of furniture. This is the revolution that sown the seed of further growth and now humankind has progressed exponentially.
