Gita Gopinath - Influential Indian Women
GITA GOPINATH Gita Gopinath, an Indian American economist who has been Chief Economist at International Monetary Fund since 2019. She is the director of the IMF’s Research Department and the Economic Counsellor of the Fund. Early life Gita Gopinath was born on December 8, 1971, Kolkata, India. She studied at Nirmala Convent School in Mysore. She received a B.A. degree in 1992 and an M.A. degree in economics in 1994, both from the University of Delhi, and further completed an M.A. degree at the Washington University in 1996. She completed her Ph.D. from Princeton University. She was awarded Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Research Award while doing her doctoral research at Princeton.
