South Korea is one of the most affluent and well developed countries in Asia. It is famous around the world for its pop culture and drama TV shows. After the partition of Korea in North and South, the former went on a path of dictatorship while the latter prospered with a liberal democracy and growing international relations. Here are some amazing facts about South Korea. 

1)K- pop 

Often referred to as K-pop or Korean pop, is a music genre originated in South Korea. Bands like BTS, PSY, EXO, Black Pink, Big Bang and GOT7 are a few of the famous bands that have captured the hearts of Koreans and people from across the world with their unique heartfelt songs. The k-pop witnessed a sudden boost after the release of a single named Gangnam Style by PSY in 2012.

2)Seollal:  Korean Lunar New Year 

A traditional festival of the Koreans which last for two weeks, officially for three days, the lunar New Year embarks the beginning a new year on the lunar calendar. Koreans look forward for this auspicious occasion as a family bonding ritual.

3)Korean Language 

The official language of Korea is Korean, also known as hanguk-eo. The language has 24 letters and includes no articles. It is similar to Mandarin and Japanese and is read and written from left to right and top to bottom. However, children in schools are taught Mandarin and English as well and Koreans are pretty good when it comes to English 4)Conscription  

One of the tough sides of this nation is the compulsory military rule for every male citizen for a period of two years. This rule was made mainly because of the tensions and unpredictable relationship with North Korea. No matter how famous or infamous the person is, he is destined to serve for the Nation. Escaping conscription can land that citizen in jail with other punishments.

5)Korean Cuisine 

The cuisine is mainly based on rice, vegetables and meats. Some of the famous dishes include Kimchi, Hoeddeok, Bulgogi, and Bibimbap. Traditional and most heard of Korean food around the world is Kimchi. It can be related to the popular Sushi of Japan, when talking in terms of recognition across the globe. 

6)A big Shopping Mall 

Koreans take it to the next level when it comes to shopping. Seoul, the capital of South Korea is known as a giant mall. Clothing brands like KYE, HyeinSeo and Lie are amongst the top picks for people.

7)Son Heung-min and Soccer 

Soccer is one of the beloved sports in the nation. Son Hueng-min, the captain of the Korean Soccer team, who also plays for English Premier League club Totenham Hotspur, was exempted from the compulsory 2 year military service after winning the gold medal in Asian Games in 2018. He will be serving the nation for only four weeks because of his contributions to the national soccer team and his worldwide recognition as a top athlete. Other famous Korean soccer players include Park Ji-sung, Hwang Hee-chan and Ki Sung-yueng.
