WHO IS HE?

Vincent Willem Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, in Zundert, Netherlands. He was a Dutch painter who was titled as one of the greatest painters after Rembrandt van Rijn.  He had almost created around 2100 works of art, which included 860 being an art piece made by using oil paints.  The paintings were mainly of the form landscapes, portraits, still life, and self-portraits. Though during his whole life, he sold only was his artwork.

TO THE CHARACTER

He was the eldest sibling among the six children. He spent his childhood in a small village in the Brabant region a part of the southern Netherlands. The words which could use to sketch his personality are, a person who likes to enjoy the silence,  who speaks less, and observe more. Well, this can be seen as a trait of an artist who speaks through his artwork. Adding on, he has the habit of wandering the countryside in his free time.

THE CHANCE

He was allowed to portray his skill in 1882, by his uncle Cornelis Marinus, who was an owner of a gallery of contemporary art in Amsterdam. Though Vincent didn't live up to the expectations, His uncle was kind enough to offer many other opportunities, but unfortunately, Vincent turned as a disappointment. He didn't take it as a negative impact; he continued experimenting with various different ways of art forms. Mainly focusing on the concept of black and white artwork which was not an appropriate decision but later this artwork was recognized as masterpieces.

IS IT EASY TO BE AN ARTIST FOR HIM?

  • Vincent van Gogh’s career as an artist lasted only for 10 years from 1880 to 1890. Even in such a short span of period, he did the best he can do. To sharpen his skills, he started with the technique which was basically about observing, learning, and implementing.

  • He settled at the Hague where he met a Dutch landscape painter named  Anton Mauve and started working with him to gain experience.

  •  Not only this he visited museums and tried to expand his area of learning by meeting many other artists. The works of Paolo Veronese and Eugène Delacroix made him realize that color plays a vital role in expressing the hidden message of your artwork.

  • He had witnessed a lot of darkness, the first being rejected by a girl to whom he loved unconditionally and the second being a failed artist. It can be taken in a note that, before opting for the career of an artist he had done various jobs such as an art dealer, language teacher, lay preacher, bookseller, and missionary worker.

THE END

  • He was tested to be a patient who suffered a psychological disorder, which made him mentally disturbed.  All this lead to a cage in psychiatric hospitals which also included a period at Saint-Rémy. When he got discharged, he took the decision to move to the AubergeRavoux in Auvers-Sur-Oise near Paris, for treatment under a homeopathic doctor named Paul Gachet

  • But the mentally unstable man was dying internally each second due to his negativity, the depression continued. As a result, Vincent shot himself in the chest with a Lefaucheux revolver. Though it is still a debatable question as many researchers believe that it was not a suicide but a murder. A report concluded that he was shot maybe accidentally, By a 16 years old boy.
