Bullying- How to deal with it?
Bullying is repeated, aggressive behavior that involves a person picking up on another just because he or she is either not able to speak up for themselves or just gets overpowered by them. The majority of this action happens in school but can also happen in workplaces or in the community. Recent statistics reveal that one in four children are faced with bullying at one time or another. Their purpose is to deliver physical or psychological harm to another person which can have a long-lasting impact on the budding minds of children or even adults. Physical bullying includes hitting, slapping, tripping, and making rude hand gestures. Verbal bullying includes commenting harsh words on their skin color, the way their body looks, and their physical appearance in general. For the past many years, a new term has emerged called Social Bullying which includes spreading rumors about someone or making fun of people in public places.
Some ways to deal with a bully are :
Don’t let them get under your skin
That’s what a bully is looking for, to get a response out of you. It sounds quite deranged but they get a kick or feel happy if they can push your emotions off the limits. So, instead of giving them that, try to have a calm mind and don’t let your feelings get the worst of you.
Take a quick action
If you’re going to let them bully you and don’t stand up for yourself, they will take this as a confirmation that you are never going to tell any authority or anyone about it. And then the bullying becomes more aggressive. So ask for help if you’re not able to deal with it on your own.
Help others going through it
We should support other people going through this. To break this cycle, we need to help each other in overcoming this.
Know Yourself
Have a deep understanding of yourself as a human being. If you are aware of your capabilities, strengths, weaknesses, and appreciate yourself from time to time, the words of the bully are not going to affect you in any way.
In a nutshell, it could be that none of these suggestions might work for you, but don't give up hope. You have to keep at it and stay consistent. Have faith in yourself and humanity. If you’re getting bullied, that doesn’t mean that there are no good human beings in the world. Don’t let them change you and have fun in everything you indulge in. There’s a famous saying by Dolly Parton “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
