A Childhood Filled with Dreams
Laxmi, born on 1 June 1990 in New Delhi Laxmi a beautiful young girl with dreams in her eyes. She dreamt to be a singer.
Courageous Struggle
Laxmi was attacked (acid) in 2005 and New Delhi at the age of 16 by stalker Naeem Khan and his friend when she rejected his advances after the horrifying incident Laxmi gone through multiple surgeries for physical scars but for mental and psychological scar she dealt with courageous and fighting spirit and family support. She also had suicidal thoughts but her parents made her love herself. In 2006 She filed a petition against the sale of acid in India.
Milestones & success
Laxmi led many campaigns regarding acid attacks and empowered many survivors. She was the former director of the Chhanv Foundation, dedicated to helping acid attack survivors. She filed a PIL regarding the sale of acid in India. After getting the judgment in favor in 2013 an amendment was framed as The Laxmi Act.
She received the International women of courage Award in 2014
In 2019, she was also honored with International Women Empowerment Award.
Chhapak Movie is based on her life which inspired many lives
She believed that acid may burn her skin not her dreams and acid attackers may change their face and body but not their heart and soul and courageously fought against acid attackers and revolutionized the life of acid attack survivors and encouraged them to be dreamers.
