Virtual Assistant Technology
Virtual Assistant Technology
A virtual assistant, also called an AI assistant or digital assistant, is an application program that understands natural language voice commands and completes tasks for the user in real-time. The tasks which were done manually can now be done through the use of virtual assistant technology. Popular virtual assistants currently include Amazon Alexa, Apple's Siri, Google Assistant, and Microsoft's Cortana. Users can ask their assistant's questions, control home automation devices, and media playback via voice, and manage other basic tasks such as email, to-do lists, and calendars with verbal commands.
People regularly send emails, call people, or listen to a song through these technologies as we don’t have to manually open the apps and do stuff on our own. Through these technologies, work has become easier and time can also be saved. Speech recognition helps to convert our speech into text through machine learning. They record conversations and then optimize and work on them to give you a better and realistic response next time.
Bixby is also a virtual assistant. It made its debut on the Samsung Galaxy S8 but is designed to work across a range of Samsung products. You can use it to get tailored information. Bixby can learn individual voices, so it will personalize answers depending on who is asking. Samsung said it "learns, evolves, and adapts" to you. In their ‘Voice Forever’ campaign, they have also shown a real-life story of a daughter who is preserving her mother’s voice as her mother is suffering from Motor Neuron Disease which will eventually take away the patient’s ability to move and talk.
Recently, Google revealed the new feature at its Search On virtual event, which is mainly used to announce updates to its search engine, which is the most used in the world. 'We all know how frustrating it is when you can't remember the name of a song or any of the words but the tune is stuck in your head,' Google said in a post. 'Google can now help you figure it out – no lyrics, artist name or perfect pitch required.'
It’s amazing to see how AI has advanced so much that it is becoming more and more humane with each progressing day, but it should also be a matter of concern. We have to think about the power AI holds and it’s ability to invade our privacy without us noticing.
As they say, technology is a boon as well as a bane.
