CHAKRAS: The body’s energy centers
A chakra is a Hindi word meaning wheel. In the yogic view, there are seven chakras which are vortexes of energy. Through yoga, we can direct these energy centers in the direction of our wellbeing and positive growth. Sometimes when energy gets blocked in chakra it can trigger mental, emotional, and physical imbalance resulting in depression, stress, anxiety, or digestive issues. Yoga can free these blocked energy zones and create a flow of positive energy inside and out.
So here are the seven chakras:
Root Chakras (Muladhara):
It is located at the pelvic bottom and is our root to connect with the earth. It stores our most significant latent potential, urges, and fears.
Element: Earth
Yogasana: Chair pose or warrior stance
Pelvic Chakra (Svadhisthana):
Located in our sacrum, this chakra is the home to our reproductive organs. It holds our desires.
Element: Water
Yogasana: Goddess pose
Navel Chakra (Manipura):
Located at the navel, it is the home to our digestive system. It holds a significant amount of our physical vitality.
Element: Fire
Yogasana: Navasna (boat pose)
Heart Chakra (Anahata):
Located at the center of the chest, this chakra holds all our emotions. It controls our emotional responses both negative and positive.
Element: Air
Yogasana: Ustrasana (Camel pose)
Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi):
Located in the throat, it is responsible for speech, hearing, and endocrine glands.
Element: Ether
Yogasana: Fish pose
Third-Eye Chakra (Ajna):
Located between eyebrows, it is the place where mind and body converge.
Element: Light
Yogasana: Sukhasana
Crown Center (Sahasrara):
It is the gateway to enlightenment.
Element: Cosmic energy
Yogasana: Savasana
If we restore balance in all our chakras we can reach the state of ultimate peace and tranquility.
