How to Develop a Reading Habit
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin
It’s common to see people setting goals for themselves that they are going to read a certain number of books in a particular year but often, they fail in this venture and drop the idea of it. Books force you to think deeper, teach you more about your field, sharpen your knowledge, and make us question the meaning of life. It is also a way to enjoy informative, creative, and inspiring works of literature that enrich our life experiences
There are several numbers of ways you can cultivate a habit of reading:
Have a book on deck: If you’ll carry a book everywhere then most probably you are going to dive into it whenever you are getting bored or the battery of the phone is gone. It’s a great way to pass the time.
Set a time and place: In midst of your busy schedule, set a little time apart for reading. It can be in the night for 20-25 minutes when you’re done with your daily tasks and are ready to relax. You can also indulge in the morning to relax your mind as books are food for our soul.
Keep a list: People also have a habit of picking a book at the last moment when they have free time in hand and often end up disliking it. Try to prepare in advance and learn what your favorite genres are so that you can keep a list and choose any book whenever you like according to your personal interests.
Join a book Club: Clubs are a great way to deep dive in reading as now you will start your journey with other people in the group and would also have the motivation to kick start the process of developing the habit.
WHY?: Find your reason and motive to start reading books because only you alone can help yourself on this road. People can help in facilitating but can’t force you to read a book by heart.
List various reasons why reading is fun, enjoyable, or important to you. As you stumble on things that seem especially meaningful, try to elaborate on them and make your journey of reading an enjoyable one.
