It is an idea. An idea for a better future. An idea that brings in the thought of a gift that we are wrapping today in the nicest packaging possible for our sons and daughters i.e. the ones that are gonna succeed us in the things that we inherited from our forefathers and our forefathers form theirs. 

But an idea can be just as good as the eyes behind it, and the aspirations that drive the force taking the choices towards the road of a pervasive development. The steps drive an idea. And to bring in the ethics of a sustainability sound future we’re gonna have to dive deeper into its technicalities.

Sustainable development is an idea born by keeping the human societies in mind and teaching them to live and meet their needs without actually compromising the attainment or fulfillment of needs of the generations to come. Therefore it boils down to an effective way of ‘organizing the society’ so that it can continue to exist in the long term. All of this unbalanced economic growth that impacts people’s well-being as well as the environment, has to be put onto a check so that people’s perspective can be changed and a new view of the world and it’s flashing bruises can be seen in a completely different light.

Sustainable development becomes the practice of using the guidelines for environmentally responsible behavior and energy savings so as to create new development projects to maintain as well as retrofit the older projects. The ways of doing so can be-

  • Using greener materials for construction

  • Designing newer and refined projects that harvest their own energy

  • Reducing the load on the power grid

  • Reincorporating new greener spaces to create a counterbalance for all the spaces that get lost due to the development of the civilization


Importance of sustainable development-

 The concept of sustainable development can be understood by dividing it into 3 components-

  • Environmental stewardship

  • Economic growth

  • Social inclusion

The greater understanding of the concept of sustained development can be seen on a pervasive scale if we look around. People are now switching over to cycling instead of driving, farmers are practicing climate-smart agriculture and the industries are realizing that how the money they can save through their energy efficiency

The 3 primary objectives of sustainable development can be understood as follows-

  • Environmental stewardship – contributing to protecting our natural and developed environment, while helping to improve biodiversity, using natural resources wisely, minimizing waste and pollution, and adapting to and helping to decrease climate change, including a global shift to a low-carbon economy.

  • Economic growth – building a strong, competitive economy, by ensuring that sufficient land of the right type is available in the right places and at the right time to support growth and innovation.

  • Social inclusion – supporting strong and healthy communities by providing the supply of housing required to meet the needs of the present as well as future generations; and by creating a high-quality of development, with accessible local services that reflect the community’s needs and support its health, social and cultural well-being.
