Bo Taoshi is a part of the culture of the country Japan. Mainly this game was built for the cadets of the National Defence Academy (NDA). But now it is followed as a sports game in school's Sports Day.  This game is all about capturing the flag, many compare it with the sports game shoe- toss played in the U.S. but it is more difficult in terms of practicality and complexity to understand the rules and regulations of the same.

RULES MAKE IT EASIER

To play the game following rules are to be followed-

  • The teams are divided into two groups basically one of the attackers and the other of defenders.

  • The Players are not allowed to wear shoes to avoid serious injury.

  • The defensive teams wear a white color dress to distinguish themselves from the other group.

  • The tactics such as kicking, punching, and gouging are allowed.

  • The team in totals should have 150 members, which are further divided into two groups with 75 players each.

  • The height of the pole ranges from 10-16 feet, which stands tall in a vertical position.

  • Both teams attack and defend at the same time, with the motive of taking the opponent's pole down.

STRATEGY TO SUCCESS

The positions of players are a significant role in the way of winning the game by a particular group. All positions except the role of Ninja are the same in both NDA and schools. The school faculty avoid the position of a Ninja, to keep the safety and health of a student as a priority.

POSITON OF DEFENDERS

Pole Supporter - the player has the responsibility of holding the pole

Barriers- these players form a defensive wall around their pole, to protect it from the attacks by the rival group.

Interferes- they interrupt the attack within the barriers.

Ninja- the player has a most vital role as he sits on the top of the pole, he is allowed to kick the attacking players and thus, maintains the vertical position of the pole.

Scrum disabler- it is a tactic used by the attackers' group, in which they spring themselves on the pole by using the support of their teammate's back.

POSITION OF ATTACKERS

Pole attacker- he is mainly responsible for defeating Ninja and thus, taking the pole down from the vertical position to 35° angle from the ground.

General Support Attackers- has the assigned role of making defense hard for the opponents.

Springboard/Scrum- the scrum act as a stepping stone, which makes it easier for reaching the pole.

MINOR DETAILS ARE IMPORTANT

  • The one end of the pole should be touching the ground at all points of time that is while playing and even at the point of lowering the pole down.

  • Helmets can be worn for safety purposes, even though outright fighting and violence are considered illegal.

  • The offensive players have the right of running on the entire field but on the other side, the defensive players are required to restrict themselves around the pole.
