Have you ever send the right text to the wrong person? In simpler words, the question is about, “have you ever dropped the right message in a wrong chatbox?” Well, this is too embarrassing, the worse is when you text the message maybe because of your emotional breakdown at that particular time and you confess your feelings to that person. It does feel good at that point, but later it is all about regret, guilt, and overthinks.

A BLESSING

Thanks to the feature of unsend the message or deleting the text for everyone option in the modern apps. This made me realize that we don't have the option of unsend the message on emails. I was really curious to know about the deep secrets and unknown mysteries of the emails.

THE INVENTOR

The first person to use the email was computer engineer Ray Tomlinson. In 1971, he tested the probability of success and failure of this e-communication.  The first word to be ever sent through this form of communication was QWERTYUIOP. The computer engineer sends the same message to himself from one computer to another computer.  Though the message traveled through the ARPANET, which was a network precursor to the internet facility.

THE JOURNEY ISN’T EASY

  • Tomlinson was experimenting with the two programs known as SNDMSG and READMAIL, its' function was to enable the user to leave a message on the same machine.

  • Taking his observation and conclusion of the above two programs, he created a third program known as CYPNET, which made it possible for a user to send and receive files between machines or computers.

  • The combined program was the reason behind the success of the email. The computer engineer; Tomlinson is also lauded for the invention of the symbol '@', which helps in searching various email addresses.

  • With improvements in the protocols, a new program named SMTP made it possible to send the message to various email addresses at the same time. Simply, the local server copies the message to each recipient.

WHERE IS THE NETWORK?

It was crucial and as well as a prerequisite to have a good internet connection for email exchange between computers.

  • BBN (Bolt Beranek and Newman) was the first company that enabled users to send emails. The company was further hired by the US Defense Department, which made the ARPANET.ARPANET is the raw form of what now Is known as the internet.

  • To facilitate the successful exchange of emails between remote areas and other sources. The telecommunications links made a platform that made it accessible to deliver a message globally. Dialup modems or leased lines are examples.

THE SUCCESS

During the 1980s the facility of email made it cheaper for people to communicate in comparison to the cost they pay communicating via phone.  Since then the growth and evolution of email can be seen. With the World Wide Web, friendly web interfaces facility was provided by email to platforms such as Hotmail, Yahoo

CONCLUSION

Emails are mainly used as a formal means of communication, as it helps in keeping the evidence of the message send the sender.
