BEAUTY OF PARIS
Eiffel Tower is known for its ineffable structure and architectural design. The government of French organized the International Exposition of 1889 in a way to celebrate the French Revolution, which was held to encourage the architecture to design the best structure for a monument. More than 100 submissions were made, out of those the design proposed by an entire name, Gustave Eiffel was selected by Centennial Committee.
THE MASTERMIND
The engineer focused on the concept of constructing a 300 meter (984 foot) tower which would be mainly built from wrought iron. The deciding factor behind the raw material decided was to arouse amazement, uniqueness and to avoid any kind of harm on aesthetic grounds.
The construction of the monument started around 28 January 1887and was in progress for about two years with a small labor force engaged and the work was completed on 15 March 1889.
MYSTERY IS HISTORY
The tower which served as an observatory and broadcasting tower named after the engineer who proposed the structure, Gustave Eiffel. The reason was to show to sign of recognition and appreciation.
The innovation in architectural design served as a revolution in the field of civil engineering. The advanced structure of metal arches and metal truce made the tower light and airy yet strong and unique.
INSIGHT OF THE TOWER
The Eiffel Tower is supported by four lattice-girder piers which are inwardly directed and join into an erect large tower. The supporting curve and the piers are bound together with the help of networks of girders at two different levels which are meant to serve as a wonderful platform to visitors.
The tower is divided into three levels providing various facilities such as restaurants on the first and second levels. The top level's upper platform which is heightened at 276 m (906 ft from the ground - is titled as the highest observation desk facility which can be availed by the public in the European Union. For the same, Tickets are to be purchased. One can use either to go by stairs or lift for climbing up to different floors. There almost 300+ steps to be climbed to ascend from ground level to the first level.
THE RANK
The tower of almost 324 meters (1,063 ft) tall is considered to be equivalent to the height of an 81-story building. It enjoyed the prestigious tag of being the tallest structure in Paris. The Eiffel Tower ranked as the tallest man-made structure in the world after surpassing the Washington Monument.
Tower lost its rank after 40 years due to the construction of the Chrysler Building in New York City which was finished around 1930.
But as it is correctly said old is gold, being the first structure to reach a height of 300 meters. Tower made its a powerful comeback or gained its reign by adding a broadcasting aerial at the top of the tower in 1957. The aerial addition made the tower taller than the Chrysler Building by 5.2 meters (17 ft).
