Spain, also known as Espanha or Espanyol, is a country in Southwestern Europe. With around 196 countries across the globe, it is fascinating how each one of them is somehow different from the other. Be it culture, food, governance, religion, language or just the sight of people. Ever wondered about this nation? Here are some amazing things to know about Spain.

Geography

Spain is Europe’s fourth largest country and the fifty-second largest in the world. Bordered by Portugal, Morocco, France, the principality of Andorra and Gibraltar, a British overseas territory, Spain is a transcontinental country, having areas in both Europe and Africa. Also, the Portugal-Spain border is the longest uninterrupted border in the European Union, extending to 1,214 km.

Languages and Culture

Spain is legally a multilingual country, with human rights related to languages being established in the constitution of the country, thus giving its citizens the right to speak other languages as well. The official language is Spanish, for the entire country. Some languages co-official with Spanish include Catalan, Galician Basque and Occitan. A western country of the European Union, Spain’s culture has had a great share of it from the Roman heritage, making it a major Latin country in Europe. Catholicism has been the country’s moral support during hard times and has strong ties with the history of the nation. On the other hand, the country’s architecture, art, cuisine and music have been shaped by a number of waves of foreign invaders, making it a place filled with exquisite art works and landscapes along with delicious cuisines that attract even the fittest people on the planet.
